Labor Day

0
0

Oh hello!

I am still recovering from a long weekend and trying to get caught up. We spent Friday and Saturday night at my parents cabin. I swam for 30 minutes and ran a few miles Saturday morning. Swimming seems much more enjoyable after a good sweat session.

img_6463
We took the boat out and enjoyed the most beautiful weather. Emmett wasn’t too fond of his Barbie life jacket.

img_6466

On Sunday, Emmett was up early so I took him for a run in the stroller. We stopped at the tennis courts and we did some planks 😉

img_6464

This picture was exactly what I needed. I wish I could say that I didn’t eat that much of it but I don’t think I even took a breath while eating it.

On Sunday, we went to a family party at the in laws. It was a long windy 2 hours through the middle of no where. We went through the wild cat mountains which was beautiful! We will need to stop and hike next time.

img_6469

So much good food! Summer needs to last forever.

Ironman- my first time spectating!

Happy hump day!

Today I ran 4 miles bright and early. I’ve started to set my phone alarm across the room when I sleep so that I physically have to get up to turn it off. Gone are the days where I could get out of bed with enough time to do an actual workout. Hopefully my new technique works.

This weekend I had the opportunity to cheer on my friend Katie for her first ironman! This is actually the first race I have ever spectated. I picked a great race to watch because the energy was incredible. After experiencing the energy from the race, I understand why people compete in it! I only watched the run portion but there was people everywhere and music playing. They lucked out with perfect weather as well.

im1

She did amazing! Check out her blog for a full recap.

im

I spied on what they were serving the runners to eat. I saw some redbull and I think chicken broth. I think I would pass on both, you never know what goes through your mind in hour 10 of a race!

im3

My friend  has a new baby pug named Jenny. I finally got to meet her this week. She is so stinkin cute. Please note the color of my eyebrows in the summer.

I hope you all are enjoying this perfect fall weather. It better not get any colder than this though.

**Ever watched a race before?

Fall Running and Bridal Shower!

0

This weekend was all over the place yet again!

bridge2

Saturday, morning I went on a longer walk/run to the trail. It was beautiful out and I didn’t bring any water on my run. I called Ryan to ride his bike and meet me. I called him after a few more miles and he informed me put the water bottle about a mile from home. It was also a completely full water bottle so I had to carry it with me. Oh well it was the thought that counts.

bridge

Friday night, Ryan mowed the lawn and I got working on the bridal shower gift for the shower I had the next day. Nothing like waiting until the very last second. I made this B for our friends getting married in November. They just moved into a new place so I thought something to hang on the wall or shelf might be cute.

bridge3

The shower was beautiful and super fun. It was breakfast at Tiffany’s themed and I forgot to wear black. Oops. I loved that they displayed the mother of the brides dress when you walked in!

bridge4

Lots of mimosas and yummy snacks. There was so much food including some pasta. Whoa, I haven’t had alfredo in forever but I handled it rather well!

bridge1

Too cute!

Say Goodbye to Summer with Outshine

Happy Friday!

I feel like this week was a particularly long week for some reason. I went to power yoga this morning at 5:15am. I refuse to wake up prior to 5am so I was a little late. Oops. Nothing like walking into a dark room and finding a spot. I went to a boot camp class last night and didn’t get home until after 7pm. I was pooped.

shine

A few people have said happy first day of fall to me and it took me off guard. I am not ready for fall or winter. As a way to say goodbye to summer I am still enjoying frozen fruit bars!

didn't last too long

I am in love with Outshine Fruit Bars are a relaxing way to wind down after a long day. Outshine believes that the brightest, most colorful lives are ones lived with passion and purpose. I treat myself to a dessert once and a while and with Outshine bars you don’t have any guilt. I will be eating them throughout the winter for sure.

These are the perfect amount of creamy! Best of all, you can find them in most grocery stores!

Rise and Shine Chicago Gourmet

Hi!

I had the best Sunday Funday ever. I attended Rise and Shine Chicago Gourmet which included an hour long yoga session and brunch. It was held inside this year, at the Chicago Athletic club.

img_6537

The yoga was led by instructors from Corepower and it got my heart pumping. It went by very quickly but we were definitely ready for brunch afterwards.

img_3513-1

Lots of champagne and coffee to start.

Sweet Green was one of my favorite stops. They had an assortment of three of their salads. I loved the pear and goat cheese salad.

img_3517

Lulu Cafe got my number one vote. They had a farro, egg, and aged cheese salad that was incredible. I went back for a second one.

img_6530

Oh and nbd. I met Rick Bayless! As a mexican food connoisseur I am a huge fan of his show and restaurants.

quail1

Needless to say, we had a blast! I was stuffed afterwards so we decided shopping wasn’t the best idea. Thank you to Chicago Gourmet for having us!

Chobani Fall Recipe Swap

Hello!
After Labor Day it is fair game for all things fall to come forward. Last weekend I even brought out my slippers and favorite fuzzy sweatshirt! The time has come.

Fall also means football season! This usually leads to greasy food galore. I am talking pizza, wings, and nachos. All the greats.

I have been setting out Chobani Meze Dips to offset the greasy options and they seem to be a hit! I love setting out a ton of different veggies so that people can try a little of everything. I am obsessed with the red pepper flavor. It is the perfect amount of spicy. They are made with no GMO and all natural flavors.

Hello!

We are headed to Galena, IL for our 3 year anniversary this weekend! This week has gone by incredibly slowly in anticipation. I woke up this morning and had to hit the treadmill because it was raining. I still need to finish packing, so far my suitcase is full. I am not sure what the weather will do so I seem to need about 100 more items.

3 Year Anniversary at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa

galena8

Happy Anniversary to my amazing husband! Galena was everything we wanted and more! I cannot recommend Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa enough! The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly.

galena4

Our room was huge with a deck and fireplace. I felt very spoiled.

galena3

We saved the champagne since I can’t drink and Ryan’s not a huge fan. I look forward to enjoying it in February when the baby is here. I definitely ate the strawberries without sharing any with Ryan. We even got to keep the Eagle Ridge champagne glasses as a keepsake! At least I think we were supposed to keep them 😉

galena1

On Saturday, we went straight to the Octoberfest grounds. We didn’t know it would be Octoberfest when we booked our trip but it worked out in our favor. We watched some weiner dog races. There were weiner dogs everywhere!

galena

I promise I am not trying to stick out my tummy in this pic like it looks! We did lots of shopping downtown. I somehow found a dress at Lulu’s. It was at the bottom of a bin and the last one. It isn’t maternity but I hope it still works for a wedding coming up!

More to come on our fun never ending eats in Galena!

I think back about our trip and I am full just thinking about it. Oh my gosh all we did was eat.

galena2

Two scoops? Why not?

galena7

We got in a 4 mile hike to offset the sugar.

galena6

Such a pretty downtown area.

galena12

Yes, that is a fried cinnamon roll. Also, some tiramisu in the back. We took some of it with us. If you ever see a fried cinnamon roll please order it whatever you do!

galena9

For no reason in particular, I LOVE room service. Our server stayed in our room for a bit to ask me a bunch of pregnancy questions. People love babies!

galena14

Is it too soon to start planning our next trip to Eagle Ridge?

Truvia Nectar

Oh hi!

The pregnancy workout are still going strong! Some days are better than others of course but doing a little bit each day gives me so much more energy.

truv

I wanted to chat about Truvia’s Nectar sweetener today! I have enjoyed the occasional Truvia sprinkled in my coffee or while baking. I was at the grocery store and noticed Truvia Nectar next to honey and agave.  The last time I bought honey, I bought a huge container at costco. Not the best idea especially in a plastic container because it gets stuck in there and you have no way of getting it out. Truvia Nectar is in the cutest easy to pour container.

My sister Sarah is being wonder woman right now nursing her 4 week old boy Parker. I made her these pumpkin lactation bars and froze them. I used a little less brown sugar and added a layer of peanut butter to the top. I also drizzled some Truvia Nectar for a touch of some honey flavor. Truvia can be used in place of honey in yogurt, oatmeal, or dressings.

truv1

So far, my favorite way to enjoy it is in a mini cup of (decaf) coffee.

Baby Update 23 Weeks

0
0

I wish I was a blogger who would have all of their weekly updates written out before announcing their pregnancy. Must have slipped my mind to do that, so this will  be my first baby update!

Baby Updates

Baby is the size of an ear of corn this week!

He or she is 11.4 inches and 1.1 pounds. However, at our last appointment 2 weeks ago, the baby was already a pound! Look out world.

prego

Mommy Updates

The pic above was a week ago and I feel like I have popped much more since then!

Workouts:  Still getting up in the morning to do some kind of cardio or weights. On days I don’t get up early to workout, I feel way more exhausted. I try to go to yoga or a sculpt class a few times a week in the evening.  I am still running and just taking more walk breaks. I am not supposed to get my heart rate above 150. I have had a little soreness in the bottom of my bump at the end of my run so I make sure to walk if I ever feel that.

Symptoms: Halleluiah 2nd trimester. I feel really good! First semester included a lot of nausea at night and car sickness. Yuck.

Sleep: The snoogle has officially made it into the bed. Ryan is at a bachelor party this weekend so he joked that I wont even notice that he is gone! The pillow is amazing. I don’t know how I will ever sleep without it.

Food Cravings: Anything cheesy or salty. Loving avocados too!

Food Aversions: I no longer can even look at a hard boiled egg. I used to eat them about every day with a salad for lunch. I tried to re-introduce them but I end up gagging in the break room at work so I gave it up. Eggs made any other way are fine. I also went for a little while where I hated hummus. Good thing I that subsided because I hummus rocks.

Baby Items Purchased: Ryan picked up an adorable stuffed giraffe. I picked up a few outfits which were all boys except for one girls outfit. I didn’t realize it until I got home! My sisters then instructed me to buy no more clothes! If this little one is a boy we are set since I have two nephews.

Belly button in/out: It is still in but I think it will be out before I know it.

Rings on/off: On!

Random thoughts: I can’t believe how much attention I get being obviously pregnant! I had a man say “no more beer for you” to me and point to my bump.

Fall Weekend

0
0

This weekend I enjoyed the beautiful fall weather. Ryan is at a bachelor party in New Orleans this weekend so I had the weekend to relax! I visited my nephew in Madison and caught up with some friends. I also made a point to store away all of my clothes that do not fit me anymore. I hung up all of my maternity clothes in their place. Thanks to hand me downs I honestly feel like I have more maternity clothes than I did regular clothes. Some of my old pants still button but they button right at my bladder so when I sit down it isn’t a good combination. I haven’t tried the rubberband maternity pants trick yet. I think it would feel like my pants are falling down the entire time.

We need to get started on our baby registry asap! Any must have suggestions?

Saturday morning, I went to yoga and swam after! I found a one piece to swim laps in and some old goggles. I am sure I impressed everyone there.

nola

Ryan was nice enough to share his pics from the Commanders Palace.

nola1

I was just a little jealous. At least it reached 70 degrees here this weekend!

Hola!

This weekend we met my in laws in Madison for some shopping. The weather was perfect. We went to Hilldale mall for some shopping and got lunch. We stopped at Gigi’s too for a cupcake. The coffee flavored treats are always my favorite, especially ice cream.

I first heard about Click Protein powder from Skinny Runner, one of my favorite former bloggers. This is one of the only powders that doesn’t taste chalky when mixed with just water.

click1

The nutrition facts rock as well! There is 120 calories per serving with 15 grams of protein!

click3

Who doesn’t need an extra dose of caffeine AND protein?

click

I tried mine with some coffee and the mocha flavor was amazing!

What is even better is that I get to giveaway a canister of the protein powder and a shaker! The winner even gets to choose the flavor!

To enter simply leave me a comment with the flavor you would choose! You can earn an extra entry by following me on instagram or twitter. Just leave a separate comment saying you did!

Happy Friday!

What a dreary couple of days! I am happy the rain has slowed at least a little bit. I cannot believe it is almost November! Christmas is only 8 weeks away people. I can proudly say I have a few presents purchased and wrapped!

gigi1 gigi

A sweet craving must have set in for Ryan. Gigi’s cupcakes it is! I actually have never been here so it was justified. The sampler pack is where its at.

cubs

Our house is all things cubs lately! These late night games are not my friend however. I have only stayed up for one entire game so far and it turned into us being out until after 2am. I don’t know how I did it with being 25 weeks pregnant but I powered through!

gigi4

I stopped at Noodles & Company for a salad. Their Veracruz salad with tofu is super good! I love avocado as a dressing.

gigi3

Huge shout out to Curate for this amazing bar. I devoured it before I could even take a picture of it. It tasted like  a candy bar with the big chunks of dark chocolate. Yum!

Go cubs go!
I wish I could say I stayed up for the whole game last night but I passed out at my usual 8pm bedtime. We have plans to watch the game tonight so I’ll be sticking it out for all of the innings!

skunk1

We had a very eventful Halloween! Our friends had a costume party. I attempted to turn my bump into Wilson the volleyball from cast away. As you can see I didn’t win the costume contest but still had a blast!

skunk
My nephew Emmett was an adorable skunk.

skunk3

My mom and I walked around Lake Geneva and saw some beautiful colors. It has been such beautiful weather.

skunk2

I can’t see myself getting sick of that view.

I am freaking out about a dress to wear to a wedding this weekend! I thought I was set but I’m not loving anything right now. Seriously maternity clothes are great when you can actually find something that works! Ugh!

**Any maternity clothes store suggestions?

I haven’t said this in a while but I am still recovering from a long fun weekend! It turns out if you are tired, you still feel hungover even if you have only drank water. I was determined to close down our friends wedding on Saturday and I was successful! The dance floor was open until 2am but with daylight savings that is 3am. They had an amazing band so it wasn’t too hard to keep dancing. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. They definitely lucked out with a November wedding!

Here are the handsome groomsmen. Suspenders and all.

My bestie and I. So many laughs with this one.

Oh and I can’t not mention the desert table. The chocolate cupcakes were absolutely amazing. There were chocolate covered strawberries too that I had at least 3 of. Such a beautiful display!

I am sad that the wedding weekend is over! I slept for 11 hours last night to make up for it. I was up in time to run 3 miles this morning. It has been so warm and amazing that I couldn’t resist. I am still feeling really good while running and I plan to keep going until I feel lousy.

As for the Click Protein Giveaway the winner is Judy!! I emailed you 🙂

27 Weeks

Happy Friday,
Also, happy Veterans day! Thank you to all of those who have served! I promised a pregnancy post soon and here I am at 27 weeks already! Starting the week of thanksgiving we basically have a baby related appointment every week! We are taking some child birth classes and they are from 7pm -9pm. I am not sure who they were kidding choosing that time frame because I can barely keep my eyes open past 7:30pm during the week.

27

When you match your favorite nut butter, you take a selfie 🙂

How did we find out? I started by taking a dollar store pregnancy test once a week for like 3 weeks. They were all negative. I finally used a Clearblue pregnancy test and sure as shit it read PREGNANT.

Workouts: I’ve been running 2-3 miles about 5 times per week. I love that I can still do this outside and am dreading having to use the treadmill soon. I am trying to do tons of squats and my 21 day fix workouts. I’ve also been doing a little prenatal yoga when I can. I need to do this much more. From sleeping on my side my shoulder and hip get sore sometimes. The snoogle pillow helps but not 100%.

Symptoms: I am really starting to feel how big I am! Just walking up stairs or getting up from sitting on the floor is a huge chore. I haven’t had any sore gums when flossing yet but I have had a bloody nose or two in the morning.

Aversions: None that I know of!

271

Cravings: Fruit and still anything salty. Chips and guac as seen above is basically not safe near me. This week I did crave some ice cream and luckily we didn’t have any in the house or I probably would have demolished a gallon of it. Oh and Nuttzo. I can never get enough.

Belly button in or out: Flat!

Sleep: The struggle is real to stay up at night. In my defense I do wake up at 5:30 everyday to workout but I feel like I only see Ryan for like a half hour every day.

Looking forward to: My baby showers! I have an amazing family throwing me showers and I am excited to see everyone! I am looking forward to our next appointment at 28 weeks. On the other hand I am not looking forward to the glucose test! They already gave me the red juice to drink that day. I’ve been told that red is way better than orange at least.

**Were you nervous for your glucose test?

Pregnancy Must Haves

Happy Friday!

run

Can you believe this weather? I ran in a tank and shorts this morning. It is November 18th. Next week is Thanksgiving. Love it! I ran 3.26 miles. Yes, I count the .26 now because every bit counts at 28 weeks pregnant!

This weekend we are taking my nephew Emmett to a water park for his 2nd birthday! It is so hard to find something fun to do with a toddler in the winter so I’m glad we found something. I’ll be rocking a hand me down maternity swimsuit that I can’t wait to try on.
Pregnancy Must Haves

run4
Nordic naturals DHA. I take these along with a regular prenatal. They smell good and are easy to swallow. The smell was especially important in my first trimester when the smell of my prenatal vitamins revolted me.

run1
Now solutions tooth paste and Now solutions deodorant. I knew I wanted to avoid aluminum while pregnant. I switch off between Toms and this. I usually go for the lavender.

run3

Coconut Oil. I have been using this on my belly since the day I found out I was pregnant. I try to apply it twice per day. More recently, my entire body has been extremely dry. My elbows are like the Sahara. I love coconut oil to keep my skin soft and even use it on my face. I will be bringing some more to work so that I can keep the cracked skin at ease.

Weekend Edition and Banza!

0
0

This weekend went by way too quickly! Saturday morning was freezing and extremely windy so I stayed in and folded laundry and cleaned up a bit. It still hadn’t warmed up enough to go outside so I hit the treadmill. It didn’t go to well unfortunately. I did a quick video from active.com and called it a day.

roti

We started off Saturday right, with Roti Mediterrean Grill. I tried the salmon salad with tons of hummus. I love that they have 4 different choices of greens! I chose spinach and arugula. I did the typical move where I save half of it to eat later but end up eating it in the car. Classy.

We spent the afternoon at a splash pad with my nephew. They had a few lanes open for lap swim so I decided to swim it out for a bit while Ryan watched Emmett. I could definitely feel it the next day!

roti1

I am always starving after swimming and this time was no exception. I made some Banza mac and cheese. I feel so much better about eating pasta when it is made from chickpeas. You can’t beat 25 grams of protein! Banza ingredients are chickpeas, pea protein, tapioca, and xantham gum. Banza is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free and egg-free! I used go veggie vegan cheese, nutritional yeast, evoo, and a little garlic. It was delish! The pic didn’t turn out the greatest but oh trust me it was great!

**Have you tried Banza?

Thanksgiving with Vega

Hello!

Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving. I am still recovering from a 4 day weekend of eating! I did a 45 minute workout this morning to try to get back on track so that helped. I also was able to run outside at my inlaws twice! It was so a little chilly but nothing I couldn’t handle. Ryan joined me for one of them and we are about the same pace when I am 30 weeks pregnant, so it works out.

My favorite protein brand, Vega has helped me recover from the mindless eating over the weekend.

us-vegaprobiotics_boxangle_elderflowerpear

I have been implementing probiotics into my diet to help regulate and have noticed positive results. I prefer to do it in drink form that’s why Vega is the perfect product. They taste great too! After Baby S is here, I want to start following their Fuel Your Better program. Marathon season is coming up quick!

us_vegaprotein_bar_snack_chocpntbttr

These were perfect in my purse on black Friday. We ran to a few stores at 7am and by 9:30am all of our stomachs were growling! These have 11g of protein so they held us over for a little while.

gluc

While we are talking about snacks, I passed my glucose test! This drink was absolutely disgusting and I felt terrible after drinking it. I was so nervous I was going to fail because my appointment wasn’t until 5pm. I made sure to avoid dairy and sugar throughout the day so maybe that helped.

Well back to Thanksgiving, my mom hosted my sisters, myself, and our significant others. It was nice to have a laid back Thanksgiving!

gluc1
The sides took first place especially the cauliflower rice with mushrooms (no bacon) and the veggie stuffing. I was pretty spoiled getting tons of time with my two nephews.

gluc2

I made Ryan his favorite, apple pie. I bet this one was his first with little hearts 🙂
So much good food!
